Sporting Ennistymon 1

The B team played their final league cup fixture Wednesday evening against Sporting Ennistymon, the game starting later than fixtured having to
give the Lahinch side a bit more time to get themselves togged and out on the pitch. The ref eventually getting the game moving at 7pm the home side started like a steam train and went at the away side pressing very early on and should have opened the scoring when Jamie Doyle found Adrian Carew in the box with his first touch of the game he drove his effort over the bar. The away side being forced to play the ball short to their full backs from kick outs they could not really move up the pitch in the first 20 minutes. With 30 minutes on the clock the home side were duly rewarded for their early pressure when a good exchange of passes between Evan Glynn and Adrian Carew he fired a cross into the 6 yard box to see Jamie Doyle come in at the back post and drive his shot into the roof of the net to make it 1-0. Sporting finding a bit of possession up the pitch fired a few long range efforts but the Town keeper Gary Cusack dealt with them. On the 40 minute mark the home side made it 2-0 when Adrian Carew played a through ball to winger Jamie Hodge he whipped a perfect cross into the 6 yard box for his opposite winger Jamie Doyle to fire home his volley giving the keeper no chance.

The 2nd half saw the away side dominate the possession for the first 15 minutes and should have created better scoring opportunities only for the back line of Aaron O Mara, Eoin Collins, Derek Byrne and Fergal McCarthy to deal with crosses into box excellently. The Town front men and midfield continued to press and nearly got rewarded once again when Jamie Hodge cut out a pass from the Ennistymon keeper and with the keeper scrambling back to goal saw his effort hit the post and come back into play to keep it at 2-0. With the away side winning 2 corners in quick succession they eventually pulled a goal back when the Ennistymon center half powered home a header to make it 2-1 with 20 minutes to go. Both teams defended well and with the Town men dominating possession in the final 10 minutes using the ball very well saw them hold out strong and claim a spot in the first Cup final of the season.
